Integrated solution for recipe optimization, labelling and quality control
Typically, batch-oriented industries, and the compound feed sector in particular, must continually change compositions according to the quality, availability and price of the supplied raw materials. This requires the management of an ever-growing number of Bills of Materials. Libra is not simply confined to the optimal calculation of recipes, it also determines the most efficient logistics flows and supports the making of buy and sell decisions by carrying out simulations on multiple plants and over multiple periods.
In conjunction with the Operra trading and risk management modules, Libra simulations can carry out multi-period calculations on the impact of varying product compositions. This means a forecast of the expected, future prices of finished products can be made, possibly on the basis of simulated positions in the futures market. This tool greatly supports the process of setting prices when establishing long-term contracts for the sale of finished products.
The increasing attention to food safety has significantly increased the demands on quality control. The applications necessary to support these functions have been brought together in one software package. Consequently, Libra has quality analysis and quality control modules, as well as laboratory management, all of which are fully integrated with the optimisation modules. The result is conclusive traceability of parties and the continuous testing of the values gained from laboratory analysis when compared to the qualities that are required or calculated for recipe optimisation.
In the agricultural industry, high flexibility is required in terms of product range and delivery times. This results in an ever increasing number of customer-specific formulations and additives, which must often be combined with a short delivery time to the customer. Furthermore, the list of requirements for the labelling of the delivered products is continually expanding. This is why a module was developed for Libra that adjusts labels automatically based on the changing product formulations. This tool can also be installed online (on the basis of factory feedback data about actual mixes or any additions to standard products that have been delivered) to further increase flexibility for the customer.
